Things To Do
Lucayan National Park
Grand Bahama Island is known for it’s gorgeous beaches and natural surroundings. Located on the east coast of Grand Bahama Island, this 40-acre park is home to numerous types of rare flower species, mangroves, ferns, and even pine trees. In the park, you’ll find the world’s largest natural underwater caving system. Ben’s Cave is very popular, as it is a favorite for cave divers. We suggest only cave diving with help of a local, experienced cave diver. The Lucayan National Park is a must-see for all nature-lovers, and is open daily between 9am – 5pm.
Garden of the Groves
Located in Lucaya, this certified 12-acre Wildlife Habitat features winding trails through lush vegetation, cascading waterfalls, and sparkling fountains. Plan at least three hours to stroll around the garden, play with children on the cedar playground, walk through the meditation labyrinth, visit the shops, and eat at the café. The hours of operation are 9am-5pm daily, with the café open all day on weekdays. The cost for admission is $15 per adult and $10 per child (ages 12 and under).
Shopping on Grand Bahama Island is available primarily at the International Bazaar, located in Freeport and the Port Lucaya Marketplace. With nearly 100 stores, ranging from high-end outlets to the local straw market, there is something unique for everyone.
Smith’s Point Fish Fry
A popular event on Grand Bahama Island is the Wednesday night Fish Fry at Smith’s Point. This native gathering takes place on Taino Beach, and is open to the public. Several restaurants engage in a cookout, allowing participants to eat and drink while dancing the night away.
